Acting locally to make a difference globally
About the Learning Path
Summary
Nowadays it is important for every human being to realize the significance of environmental issues. That is why environmental topics have become an increasingly important part in all curriculums. The purpose of this Learning Path is to raise awareness among students and to inspire them to act more responsibly, both locally and globally (i.e. “glocally”).
The Learning Path is focused on five different areas which students investigate in order to minimize their impact on the environment. The areas are:
- Deforestation
- Water Consumption
- Electricity Consumption
- Fossil Fuels Consumption
- Recycling
Ideas behind the potential use of the learning path
Teachers from different subject areas will have the ability to integrate these current real-world issues (Deforestation, Water Consumption, Electricity Consumption, Fossil Fuels Consumption and Recycling) and make connections to their curriculum.
The added value to the learner experience
Students will be able to:
• Use English in all aspects of the project
• Examine different policies concerning environmental issues
• Inquire independently, raise questions, and search out answers related to the research topic
• Use critical-thinking skills to analyze data and interpret the significance of their findings in the context of ecology
• Use a collaborative approach to synthesize the information gathered in individual research
• Make conclusions based on their research and the activities they have completed locally, making inferences about their global impact
Each student can measure his / her personal impact on the planet Earth, by answering the questions in the quiz.
